Framing — cedar and redwood
Both are naturally rot- and insect-resistant, smell beautiful, and weather to a soft silver-gray. Cedar is our go-to for most Bay Area builds; redwood for premium or coastal projects.
Mesh — 16-gauge welded wire
Avoid chicken wire and hex netting — they bend, snag claws, and won't stop a determined raccoon. We use 16-gauge welded wire, powder-coated black for visibility and safety.
Hardware — stainless or galvanized
Ordinary screws will rust within a year of California weather. We spec stainless steel or hot-dipped galvanized fasteners on every build.
